I’ve always been afraid of ordinary things. I run away from them, to extreme experiences. I want everything to be intense: my state of mind, the state of my relationships, the state of my life. It’s like a contemplative parable about how to suffer more. Obviously meditation is about being OK with the ordinary, and in that surrender, finding it to be quite fine, thank you very much. It’s also about being OK with our desire for extreme experiences – also fine, thank you very much. In this evening of practice, we accept both ends.
