GROUP PRACTICE: Tonglen
This is a compassion practice of breathing in people’s pain and breathing out relief. One of the interesting pieces of this practice is how much we resist doing it. We feel self-conscious, we think it’s cheesy. Or we get angry. We think “Shit! I’m supposed to be generating love and here I am getting pissed and resentful. I must be the biggest asshole.” Lots of ways to get stuck. And so we send the Tonglen out to all those who get stuck in a similar way. Meditation is like this – just pan back the camera one more notch and make your “problem” part of the practice.
